The Wonder Stone ‘Shajar’

The Wonder Stone

There are so many wonders of the world which leave us astonished every day. Came across one of them recently while visiting my hubby’s hometown in northern India. Shajar the wonder stone found near the banks of river Ken. It is a translucent peice of stone with various patterns like trees, leaves, animals to name etc.

There are various stories going around about it’s origin. Scientifically the patterns we see on shazar are nothing but entrapped fossils of fungus( basically algae). The fungus entrapped between two or more pieces of shazar stone, produces either acid or base which makes the stones translucent and also joins separate stones into one. Thus the fossils of fungus left inside the stones look like the pattern we see.
But there is another story popular with the local people, they say at certain specific position of the moon the shadow of whatever object(near it) falls on it leaves an impression on it.
Though I belief the scientific theory but nothing of this reduces my liking for this unique stone. Here are some of the pieces I liked:

I am thinking of getting some of them made into a jewelry, what do you think?
